Newbie questions

I am sure everyone reading this is sick of newbie questions, but here goes:
1. Is the county recorders office a good place to generate leads for privately held notes to broker?
2. I live in Minnesota, are there problems with starting my business flipping notes?
I just got Stefanchiks $20 book, and I had no idea this kind of investment even existed. I realize this is not a simple business or one that makes you rich overnight. I need to know, however, is it possible to actually start this with little money into it, flip a few notes and slowly start this business from scratch??? I'm concerned there is a hidden catch somewhere.
