Sounds like it is time to take one of the local broker/buyers in your area to lunch. I wouldn't stop advertising, just strike a deal for a referral fee until you feel confident to buy or broker yourself.
Also, there is the equivalent of a free course or two just in the free articles on this website that you can read. Also, www.papersourceonline.com has a free "E-course" on notes and you can learn a lot about notes on the newsgroup there, here (www.papergame.com), www.noteworthyusa.com and wwww.creonline.com
